“Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer.”
This is how King David started Psalms 4. David was a man of passion, a man after God’s own heart. In times of trouble, in times of sorrow or happiness, David wrote and talked to God.
Sometimes the power in our prayers lacks, because there is no passion. David knew who God was in his life and all that he had done for Him. Have you ever found yourself searching for words as you pray and you then question yourself, did that even make sense? I think we all have been there. The problem is that we are speaking with earthly words, rather than letting our hearts speak directly to God.
He knows our situation, he knows our sorrow, our pain and our happy moments. He just truly wants to have an intimate relationship with you. So intimate that He would be the first person you talk to when a situation arises.
I have read this psalm multiple times and I may say it is one of my favorites by far. You may ask why? See, I reached adulthood at an early age, younger than most, and I was faced with multiple trials. The Word of God sustained me throughout all those difficult situations. My favorite verse states “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Psalms 4:8 NIV.
There is nothing and no one aside from God that can grant you that peace. That peace of knowing that as you lie down to sleep He protects you, He helps you rest in His almighty arms, reassuring you that EVERYTHING is going to be okay. May our Lord bless you and keep you!
